StreetZen classes use a variety of texts and printed material. Classes are usually Tuesday nights, 7:30- 9:30, for between 6 and 8 weeks.

Each class begins with a short period of meditation, followed by lecture, readings, Q & A and discussion. Also, a very important element of class is that each practitioner reports on their experience of practice in daily life, discussing obstacles and insights. For example, “What happened when you applied the teaching/instruction on non-attachment to your daily life?”

The class is not about philosophy. Rather, the class is about practical application of Zen instructions (teachings) to daily life. The class is about lived experience, not concepts and ideas.

Class admission is not “open.” Instead it depends on a personal interview with the teacher. In this way both the practitioner and the teacher can determine if the class is right for each person.
